Only parents will receive the email message with the registration form from Mr. Hernandez. Please make sure your email contact information is current with the MS Office. Students will receive announcements that registration is under way through the MS Athletics and Activities group on Schoology, but only parents will receive the link to register. Our attendance policies are dictated by emphasizing the need to see commitments through at both practices and jamborees. Previously we have allowed many reasons to be considered excused absences for both practices and jamborees, but we feel the previous policy was ineffective. Students regularly missing practices and jamborees directly affect our ability to properly prepare and compete against other schools. The current policy is as follows:

  1. Students and parents must commit to attending all jamborees to register for the team.
  2. Missing a jamboree may result in removal from the team.
  3. Quitting a team will result in that student not being allowed to participate in the next season the student registers for.
  4. The attendance policy is as follows:
  • the first missed practice will result in a warning
  • the second missed practice will result in removal from the team
  • excused absences are only when a student is absent from school (including KIS events such as a field trip, performance, etc.), sent home by the school nurse, have a doctor's note restricting athletic activities, or in the event of a family emergency.
  • A special exemption will be made for students involved in a KIS theater production since they typically involve more than one athletic season.
This policy is not meant to punish students, but is meant to reinforce the importance of commitments. When people do not fulfill obligations, consequences typically result so we feel this is a valuable life skill we are reinforcing. Additionally, we feel this policy will allow KIS to continue to not limit how many students can be on a team, as some other KAIAC schools are doing. We will allow as many students to participate on our teams that register on time as long as they commit to the whole season. To assist you in coordinating your child's schedule, information for the entire season for every team can be found on this wiki in the links to the left.

As for the teams we have available this semester, season 3 includes volleyball, table tennis, or badminton. Students may only register for one. All three are for both girls and boys. For badminton, students will need to provide their own racket, but shuttlecocks will be provided by KIS. For season 4, we have separate girls and boys basketball teams. For volleyball and basketball, students are not allowed to wear eyeglasses for safety reasons as stated in the KAIAC By-laws. Students can wear either sports goggles, contact lenses, or nothing at all. A photo of acceptable sports goggles is attached below.

You can find additional information on each team on the KIS MS Athletics Wiki which includes the start date and end date, jamboree dates, and a calendar for quick reference. If you have any questions, please contact me any time. Thank you.
